What is somatic therapy?
Somatic Therapy is the predominant form of therapy we use at KINECTIONS, Inc.
The dictionary definition:
Somatic Therapy involves the application of accurately determined and specifically directed manual forces to the body. Its objective is to improve the mobility in the areas that are restricted, whether the restrictions are in the connective tissues or in the skeletal muscles.
The consequences may be the improvement of posture and locomotion, the relief of pain and discomfort, the improvement of function elsewhere in the body and enhancement of the sense of well-being.
The selection of the body sites for treatment is based on signs provided by palpation and includes muscular and fascial tension, and by visual observation of body contour, posture, and locomotion.
Treatment effects are achieved through improved locomotion, improved dynamics of body fluids, (including blood circulation and lymph drainage) and in the nervous system.
In laymen’s terms:
We use our years of experience and training, combined with a variety of proven, hands-on, manual therapy techniques to help you to move better, to feel better, and to achieve a reduction in pain. The exact expression of treatment will vary from person to person, and is impossible to determine without an in-person evaluation.
Our promise to you
We’re here to help you feel better. That being said, if we don’t feel that we can help you, or that somatic therapy is not right for you, we will let you know right up front and refer you to another care provider if appropriate.
