INTRODUCTION TO VISCERAL TREATMENT AND ASSESSMENT

May 15 - May 17

Visceral treatment is the practice of using your hands to move and release scar tissue, fascial and mobility restrictions in the abdomen and pelvis to encourage the normal movement and function of your internal organs.

The goal of this class is to present concepts of how to address the visceral system in a manual practice. We will cover the embryology, anatomy, physiology of the visceral system. The student will learn how to palpate the area around the organs looking for motion dysfunction. Treatment will be specific to understanding that we are not treating an organ that is diseased, but an organ that has lost its normal mobility and how that plays out in the clinical setting.

Somato-visceral, viscero-somatic and viscero-viscero patterns will be covered. Laboratory time will reflect concepts presented in lecture and treatment will be demonstrated.

One of the pit falls of most visceral  technique is allowing the clinitian to be wrong.  No technique should ever be taught that only allows the clinician to be always correct, therefore this class establishes the concept of checks and balances to identify dysfunctions and not let the clinician be absolved of responsibility for their reasoning in their assessment.

18 contact hours – 18 1-A hours anticipated – BOC Approved Provider #P8765 NCBTMB Approved Provider #1597 AMBP School Member #1084335

  1. Identify the concepts and components of embryology of the digestive system.
  2. Differentiate between normal and abnormal mobility and motility of the abdominal organs.
  3. Formulate a working knowledge of specific organ dysfunction in organizing an assessment and treatment plan.
  4. Assess the autonomic implications of visceral  dysfunction in order to provide appropriate treatment.
  5. Apply Manual Visceral Techniques to change the areas of dysfunction.
