UNDERSTANDING GUT DYSBIOSIS AND TREATMENT PROTOCOLS IN A MANUAL PRACTICE
April 21, 2017 @ 9:00 am - April 23, 2017 @ 12:00 pm UTC+0$650
BOC Advanced Level
Symbiosis translates to ‘living in harmony.’
Dysbiosis is the opposite — it’s when the non-commensal bacteria predominate outnumbering normal and indigenously resident bacteria. Essentially this means there is an imbalance of naturally occurring microbiome residents in the digestive tract. The gut microbiome (comprised of bacteria, fungi, viruses) maintain a harmonious balance in a healthy digestive tract by keeping each other in check so no one specific strain dominates. When the gut microbiome is unable to self-correct, chronic imbalance(s) ensue compromising not only the GI tract but the entire system. A balanced microbiome help us with digestion, absorption, produce vitamins, control growth of harmful microogranisms, immunity and keep the intestinal cells well fed by creating short chain fatty acids.
Dysbiosis has been shown to cause arthritis, autoimmune illness, depression, hypertension vitamin and mineral deficiencies, chronic fatigue syndrome, cystic acne, eczema, food allergies, food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis and probably more.
This class addresses the Manual Therapy approach to dealing with disbiosis.
Lecture and lab will be presented.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant should be able to:
- Identify the concepts and components of dysbiosis.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal clinical findings in dysbiosis.
- Formulate a working knowledge of the imbalances in the GI tract and use this model in organizing an assessment and treatment plan.
- Apply Manual Therapy Techniques to change the areas of somatic dysfunction.
